70th anniversary

Pressure cookers turned into frying pans

In 2026, SCANPAN will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Since 1956, we have been known as an internationally recognized manufacturer of uncompromising cookware and accessories for all types of kitchens – with roots in Danish craftsmanship, functionality and innovation.

70 years after our first die-cast frying pan, we are marking it with selected anniversary products at a fixed low price all year round.

Scanpan's History

Timeline

A lot has happened since the world's first die-cast pan was created in 1956, somewhat by chance. Inventor and businessman GAL Thorsen was developing a pressure cooker. The project was abandoned – but the lid that was intended for the pressure cooker would become the basis for a frying pan.

In 1976, our current factory in Ryomgaard opens - and experiments are made with polishing with beeswax to get a shiny surface. The first step towards our famous non-stick coating.

In 2002 we change our name from Pyrulux to Scanpan.

2017 was the year we introduced our Stratanium coating and the following year we launched our Stratanium+ coating.

2026marks not only our 70th anniversary - but also the year when, after many years of work, we can present our newest coating, Stratanium Leap, which is produced without PFAS.
